Peabody Hotel Lobby Bar

If you've never been to the Peabody Hotel in Memphis you gotta give it a try. It's a beautifully restored historic hotel in the downtown area and is most famous for the ducks that preside in the lobby fountain area.

Twice a day the ducks take the hotel elevator for their trek either to or from the fountain.

The lobby bar offers the best view of this quirky little parade and it was there that I discovered the best- I mean, by far, the best- Mai Tai that I have ever had. I've been all over the U.S., including Hawaii, and to most corners of Mexico. Additionally, I've traveled to over 20 Caribbean islands.

I can't possibly adequately describe the taste of the Peabody Mai Tai but I've been back at least 10 times during travels from Dallas to Nashville.

I've been served so many Mai Tais that seem to have some kind of powdered mix in them, that when I get one I really like I tend to overdo it ...... details go unnoticed....I do remember, however, that it was not overly sweet like they so often are.....I might add that they have an extensive exotic drink menu at the Peabody and the Mai Tai is NOT on it........I guess their experience with all the menu exotics has made them aware of what it takes to make a good Mai Tai.

I hope you have the opportunity to try it. I really wanted to give it 5 stars but I'm holding back. Just in case that somewhere....out there....awaits one that tops it!
