This is first post for this blog: Useless Productivity. Here’s what we’re all about and how we got this far.
In 2003 I wrote a software guide for Palm OS apps for PalmSource. I became a “Palm-Powered Software Champion” by penning the software guide to “Fun, Goofy, or Weird” Palm applications. Those were among my favorite parts of having a Palm PDA, but sadly I lost the Palm religion in 2005 about the same time that I discovered podcasts and when Palm (or PalmOne or PalmSource or whatever they are called) couldn’t figure out how to update their operating system.
Fast-forward to December 2006, when I included what might have been a cryptic note to some, saying I was looking forward to the “Apple iPhone” in 2007. Just days later, Steve Jobs (in what was probably his best keynote performance ever) introduced the iPhone and I knew I had a replacement for my lost-long Palm PDA.
Of course, the iPhone I got in July 2007 wasn’t quite the Palm replacement I had hoped. The phone and web stuff was great, but web-apps aren’t the same as real-apps when it comes to having those all-important “useless” apps. But, with the iPhone 2.0 software and the availability of third-party applications a year later the circle was complete.
There are some great iPhone resources out there (check out the Blogroll for this site). But very little coverage of the “weird” iPhone apps that I love.
So, here I go again to fill the void in the marketplace. Look for news, reviews, and opinion about touch applications of all kinds. I have a lot of ideas that I think will be fun. And if you have ideas, please drop us a line: kevin@kevdo.com.
